Guiding Questions for Initial Article Analysis

You’ve decided to write a college paper about the importance of the thrilling effect of roller coasters and you’ve found only a few articles.

Take a few moments to look at these two articles and answer the following questions based on your first impressions.

  •  Which of these two articles is more intimidating and why?
  • Which of these articles would be easier to pull quotes out of?  Why?
  • Which of these articles would be easier to paraphrase for some background or context in your own paper?  Why?
  • How could you use each article to find more research?

The IMRAD (Intro, Methods, Results, AND, Analysis) paper is a prototype for the IMRDC – sometimes they are used interchangeably. Here are two good articles that analyze the IMRAD genre.
